Annice Loyd Leet

Sportsmanship Award

Sportsmanship Award

The Annice Loyd Leet Sportsmanship Award is presented each year to a member of the BRWIGA in honor of Annice Loyd Leet (1911-1983), a driving force behind the Women’s Golf Association for thirty-four years.  City Champion in 1955 and 1959, Annice had a reputation for playing an unselfish game. Even when she was not at her best, she was kind and gracious to everyone.  She was an institution: Miss Golf.
Sportsmanship Award Guidelines
To receive the Annice Loyd Leet Award from one’s peers is a special honor. The recipient, who must be active in both her home club events and in Interclub events, is honored not so much for her accomplishments as a player, or even her contributions to the game, but rather for her spirit, her qualities as a human being and her attitude toward the game and those who play it. The recipient should demonstrate respect for the game and its rules, a generosity of spirit, a sense of fair play, self-control and self-sacrifice. The award recognizes all of these qualities, as well as her enthusiasm and continued involvement in the game of golf. In this award, the spirit of Annice Loyd Leet lives on.
A recipient of this award may be nominated again after a period of at least three years has passed.
